- All civilizations can
- build siege workshops in town phase
- construct battering rams in town phase
- train siege engineers in town phase
- The siege engineer is a new, vulnerable support unit that can construct battering rams and siege towers
- Fortresses
- can no longer construct siege weapons or research siege technologies
- have a territory root, to avoid losing your entire base when your civil centre is lost
- have vision range increased to 100 (from 80)
- All melee infantry inflict 3.0 crush damage per second vs ships, siege weapons, and structures, instead of their normal attack
- All siege weapons
- have their population cost increased to 4
- are no longer capturable
- Battering rams
- can no longer attack organic units
- inflict significantly less base damage
- do 3.0× damage vs defensive structures
- cost 300 wood and 100 metal (instead of 350 and 200)
- have 20 training time (instead of 30)
- move somewhat slower
- have vision range reduced to 20 (from 80)
- Bolt shooters
- inflict only pierce damage and no crush damage
- splash damage can friendly fire
- have 30 training time (instead of 20)
- have vision range reduced to 100 (from 120)
- Stone throwers
- inflict only crush damage and no pierce damage
- attack range increased to 30–90 (from 26–80)
- splash damage can friendly fire
- cost 300 wood, 100 metal, and 100 stone (instead of 400, 0, and 250)
- have 40 training time (instead of 25)
- have vision range reduced to 100 (from 120)
- Siege towers
- inflict somewhat less pierce damage but have somewhat more range
- have 50 training time (instead of 40)
- move slower
- have vision range increased to 100 (from 80)
