Please enjoy my first ever map, Xmas Course!
It started off as an all cement warm up spot for the different ollie heights as well as quick pop practice. A couple of free unity store assets later and the theme was born.
TLDR: Xmas themed map I use to warm up on as well as practice map-making. Feedback is extra appreciated as it's my first map.
It's a 2 stage park with each one having it's own feel.
The first area is essentially a free skate area. I use it for warming up on realistic settings (it's compatible with Milky and GG's most recent realistic settings, i tested both the day of upload 09/12/20) but can be used with vanilla ones as well. There's a slight flow to the park but I built it with the intention of nice quick lines. You can see examples in my preview video.
The second area is an obstacle course/ fun line. You start at the first blank pad and flow how you want from there. The last platform gives you multiple options for a "grand finale," feel and which finish is up to you as well. The big gift and bow have mesh colliders but no splines. other than the ends of the bow.
Testing Parts, Feedback Extra Appreciated on The Following:
- Cars - The cars are not functional imo. However, I'm hoping some feedback from the community might help me with which technique is worth while backtracking with and trying to get fully functional. The Red Car is two box colliders with some grind colliders on the top lights. While glitchy, you can skate on and off of it with some consistency. The Green Car is the complex mesh it came with for rigging as well as the auto generated grind splines. Any grinds you find work best please reply below as I'll see what aspects of those colliders have in common to duplicate their success on other areas.
- Big Star - It was a late addition by me and only works well with my personal settings (slightly higher high pop, slightly higher top speed and push force) It can be hit as a solo object, but I am working on the scaling to have it be part of the "3-Star-Line."
- Stairs - Red stairs have grind colliders, feedback on which feel best, or which get in the way the most is welcomed. Green stairs need to be scaled better to allow for a better launch over the gift.
- Back Area of Course - A smaller scale of what I'd like the large finale to be like. please try to grind on, ollie over, quick pop off of, the gift box in the back, It's the best working one I've got for grinds but I'm not comfortable calling it ready.
Roadmap:
Version 1.1: September 2020
- Rescale Big Star to be more functional for standard realistic settings.
- Stairs and Large Gift scaled to flow with each other (Ramp to ollie over gift, high enough and wide enough top set of stairs to go around ramp and skate onto the gift.
- Grindsplines on all edges that don't get in way more often than they're worth
Version 1.2: October 2020
- First version of decided on method for grindable or strictly ridable car
- Big star used as the first test of primitive and grind colliders only (No mesh collider, which is a good starting point but I'd like to fine-tune it and follow best practices.
- Big Gift Grind Splined
- Back Area - Testing Ramps and Half Pipes for V2
