Chichén Itza

Chichen Itza is one of the most important ruins on the Mexican peninsula of Yucatan . It is located about 120 kilometers east of Mérida in the state of Yucatán . The ruins date from the late Maya -time.

With an area of 1,547 hectares of Chichen Itza is one of the most extensive discovery sites in Yucatán. The center is occupied by numerous monumental representative buildings with religious and political background, from which a large, largely preserved step pyramid stands out. In the direct vicinity there are ruins of houses of the upper class.
